Sandra Backlund is incredibly inspiring through her heavy weighted, playful knitwear designs. Her pieces are contemporary through innovative use of shape and challenging the design process of knitting. Backlund expresses through her designs that knitting is not just for grannies.

Weight and material testing

Studying how knitwear moves depending on weight and material testing using calico, metal and cotton to create the structural quality of the knitwear pattern. These pieces are about zooming in and focusing on a small area which forms a network of tiny units. It is about blowing up these units and experimenting with where they can be placed on the body and with what material.
