I was drawn to animal armour as my focus for this project. The above pieces are observational studies of shells focusing on line, shape and texture which are all major elements in aiding the protection of the creature within the shell. I wanted to compare this to human armour and examine the contrasts and similarities between both.

Similarities:
Links/Units/Segments
Movement
Hard Exterior

Contrast:
Man Made vs Nature
Scale

I choose to study the similarities and how they could be brought forward in the design process:

Multiple tests and samples were carried out to try and distinguish the most effective shape and structure for the production of a sleeve appropriate to the nature of the project.

The Final Outcome:

The final outcome links both human and animal armour through the use of units which build up a sense of protection: the links aid movement and therefore defense; they are a barrier between the creature and the enemy.
